On January 29 2002 about 400 people attended the traditional ceremony of Hugues Capet Awards to the Maxim’s Residence of Paris. A warm and welcoming atmosphere prevailed for the evening which was presided by Madam the Countess of Paris. Also present were members of the Gotha together with personalities from the world of Art and Literature. The Events was hosted by Pierre Cardin and Jacques-Henri Auclair, Founder of the Price Hugues Capet. Tremendous applause greeted the Laureat, Professeur Jean Favier, member of the Institute of France, Grand Officier of the Order of the Honour Légion, Former General Director of the French Archives and the President of the French National Library of France.

Following speeches from Pierre Cardin, Jacques-Henri Auclair and Madam the Countess of Paris, Professor Favier author of the excellent “LouisXI” published by the Editions Fayard, expressed his thanks to the benefactor of the Price Hugues Capet for their continuing support; Coutts Bank of Geneva and its Vice President , Richard Charbon ; Monseigneur the Duke of Calabria and Princesse Beatrice of Bourbon-Siciles representing the sacred and military Constantinien Order of Saint-Georges, the oldest Order of Knighthood of Christendom.

Recognition was also given to the presence at the event of Monseigneur the Count of Paris and the Duchesse of France, H.R.I the princess Vin-Thuy, HH.RR.HH. the Prince Charles-Philippe d’Orleans, the Prince Faycal Bey of Tunisia, the Princess Viktoria-Louise de Prusse, the Duchesses Sophie and Margurite de Wurtemberg, the Princess Nesrine Toussoun of Egypt, the Count and Countess Francois de Bourbon-Busset, HH.EE. the Ambassadors of Monaco and the Ukraine, the historians Jean-Christian Petitfils, Jean-Luc Gourdin, Philippe de Saint-Robert, Jean Chalon, Wladimir Volkoff, Madam Carven, the Professor Cabrol, Maitre Pierre Cornette de Saint-Cyr and Pierre Pujo.

As in previous years, the event went on late in a particularly friendly atmosphere with Maxim’s Champagne and delicious petits fours from Marine Reception…
